Marie Maison Sicilian Design inherits thirty years of experience in the home furniture sector, both in the selection of quality objects and accessories, as well as in the creation of original and handcrafted lines, which nourish a tailor-made consultancy and design work. The attention to detail, the choice of quality materials, and the precious collaboration with skilled workers give life to an original style, with an unmistakable personality.

“Thanks to my experience in furnishing and bespoke design, over the years I have also gained the privilege of providing my advice to architects and designers for interior design. Within the exclusivity of each of their projects, we build together the exclusivity of the furniture pieces, not only those of my lines but also those we select from other quality companies so that we can always count on the best for every environment.

A collaboration experience that I am ready to make available again to new professionals and new projects, with the desire to invent new forms and realize new dreams”, says Maria.

Someone once said that “To inhabit the world, it is necessary to have lived in a house“.

That’s the principle with which to interpret my profession, that of furnishing, centered around the constant search for a definition connected to the largest and deepest human experience of living, continually pushing me to ask myself: “what does it really mean, to take care of the space that someone will live in?”

In this moment of research, the answer is simply: furnishing a new home means trying to infuse it with that same dimension, that same sense of protection that each of us has experienced in our birthplace. This is the magic, which I try to recreate every day, aware that for the life of each of us it is crucial to feeling fully welcomed by the space that surrounds us, absorbing the care with which someone has drawn it around us. Even on us!

And every piece of furniture in our home or our workspace, in addition to enveloping us with a style that is similar to us, must be of help every day and offer us an opportunity for comfort. It’s from this necessity and its most intimate reason, that the desire was probably born in me not to stop and choose them, but to design my furniture myself.

Furniture that is inspired by the place that was my origin:

My city, the historic district where I grew up, is in the heart of the Sicilian Baroque, which taught me to scrutinize the glimpses of sky among the architecture, to absorb the meaning of the harmony that is always hidden in the causality of colors shapes to govern space.

Giving life to a piece of furniture, from the simplest to the most complex, from the most linear to the most original! That’s a delicate task, which must continuously measure itself against a question of functionality, as well as a choice of style. That’s a long work on details, which when it is well done, it becomes invisible, hidden behind the well-being of an accomplished and lasting result.

Memory and identity, imagination and curiosity, gaze and freedom. And again my hiding places and my escapes, family stories and fairy tales, books and travels, roots, and dreams. My whole life, my whole soul comes into my work without a filter. And with an open heart, I welcome the infinite possibilities of growth and evolution that each new project can represent.

Being Sicilian, after all, by definition means being contaminated. This is why my work has within the millennia of cultural intertwining that weave the identity of my land. Together with all the instinct, the love, the passion that I have drawn from it, for thirty years now, to work as a decorator.

A profession that chose me, even before I chose it: that if it hadn’t conquered me to such an extent, maybe I would have been a singer or even a lawyer. But a glance was enough to fall in love with it: the same, I think, which is enough for each of us to get in tune with the space that surrounds us and feel welcomed by it.

So for example, from the treasure chest of my childhood, where that universe of symbols is kept that my imagination is still transforming into prophecies, cards pop up to lend the face to one of my most representative lines, Terra Mia.

An explosion of Sicily that spontaneously looks towards the East, my natural inclination, my sweetest and most powerful cultural love, to which my every creative gesture is somehow intertwined.

I like first of all this, of my every day: the possibility that every encounter offers us to open new ideas and new worlds, the fascination with which every pretext of reality conquers the imagination and guides it towards ideal associations, certainly not random, which are ready to open only to the gaze of those who are ready to be amazed.

The art of furnishing is a long process, a long work on details, which when it is well done becomes invisible, hidden behind a single result: the well-being of living, the naturalness of feeling at home, immersed in a space that looks like.

This is why my lines resemble me, who are — they say — like a prickly pear, which protects beauty with a few thorns. I have always preferred the classic taste, but I want my pieces to fit everywhere, next to an antique piece of furniture as well as in the home of a modernist, expressing a unique and unrepeatable style.

Furniture without color is like a day without music. It is with color that I instill the soul in each piece, dressing my elegant wooden bodies with fine finishes. Their identity is, like mine, completely Sicilian, even if it is imbued with the influences of my many travels, my cultural and stylistic contaminations.

If they are beautiful and functional, all furniture can become versatile. I like to think that each piece of my lines can be used in multiple contexts, in a living room as in a studio, and rediscover a different identity each time, revealing a unique and very special aspect of one’s personality.

POUFF

Memory and identity, imagination and curiosity, gaze and freedom are even more precious gifts than the necessary rigor of technique: they are precisely those that ensure harmony in life.

Giving life to a piece of furniture or a pouf, from the simplest to the most complex, from the most linear to the most original is a delicate task, which must continually be measured, with a question of functionality as well as a choice of style, so I created the poufs Peperoncino and Pomodoro with a long work on details that when well done becomes invisible, hidden behind the well-being of a complete and lasting result.

TERRAMIA

The Ace of Coins is the unpredictability of the gifts we welcome in our life. Spade’s is the reverse of him, the risk we have the task of challenging and crossing. The ace of Wands is fire, the embodiment of strength, the energy it creates. Coppe’s is instead the source of wisdom, the cornucopia of inspiration and emotion.

The papers that lend the face to my most representative line are paintings to which color gives power and vitality, which in my furniture find the balance of elegance thanks to the precious mother-of-pearl finishes on the wood supported by light baroque shapes.

ROMEO

The timeless elegance of cherry wood solidly supports the canneté texture, establishing balanced confidence that frames informal and familiar atmospheres.

We hope you enjoyed this blog about how significant the personalization of the spaces we belong to is and the great works by Maria Linguanti…!
